The incident took place 3 p.m. Sunday when Stamford Police were dispatched to Selleck Street for a report of a serious domestic assault.
Upon arrival, officers encountered the 58-year-old victim who said that her boyfriend identified as Lindon Shaw, 49, physically assaulted her, and choked her until she lost consciousness and eventually had a seizure due to the strangulation, said Stamford Police.
When she regained consciousness she called 911 and the officers arrived to find Shaw at the premises and he ran off. Officers searched the residence and surrounding area but were not able to locate Shaw. The victim was transported to Stamford Hospital and treated for a multitude of injuries inflicted by Shaw, police said.
The victim told officers that Shaw drives a Silver Chevy Silverado, has access to a handgun, is very violent, deals narcotics and may be in possession of a large pit bull.
Just after 6 p.m. Capt. Diedrich Hohn was traveling on Selleck Street when he saw a man matching Shaw's description, standing outside the rear passenger’s side door of the vehicle described in the memo.
Hohn pulled into the lot and identified and ordered Shaw to back away from the vehicle. Shaw refused to comply and his large pit bull came charging at the captain, who at this point, had retreated to his vehicle.
Shaw and the dog then took up the same position behind the passenger side door and Hohn again approached in an attempt to apprehend Shaw. Shaw still would not comply and kept his hands behind the car door. At this point, the dog charged Hohn and when it got within three feet of attacking, Hohn shot the dog. The dog ran away and Shaw then complied with Hohn's orders and was arrested.
During the arrest, police found a brown paper bag with 1.7 ounces of cocaine and numerous baggies used for packaging about five feet from where Shaw was standing, police said.
Police said they believed Shaw was using the dog to protect his narcotics business and used the dog as a distraction to throw the narcotics as the dog was attacking. F
The dog was rushed to Cornell Vet Hospital and is in stable condition at this time.
Shaw was charged with assault, strangulation, disorderly conduct, and threatening in relation to the domestic violence charge. Bond was set at $100,000.
"The SPD would like to commend the victim for coming forward to report this incident," the department said. "This abuse the victim has been experiencing has been going on for some time and every incident gets more violent."
